Description:
The course presented by experienced nurses and other integrated health specialists within the specialty of metabolic bariatric surgery will share some of the latest research and practice information to guide nursing care of bariatric surgery patients. This session is particularly targeted to nurses who have worked in the specialty of metabolic bariatric surgery for 2 or more years. Although, all nurses working in metabolic bariatric nursing may find it helpful for their practice and are encouraged to join in if they wish.
Learning Objectives:
- Report recent bariatric nursing research/quality improvement initiatives, especially related to the evolving content description of metabolic bariatric nursing and the practice of patient education.
- Engage in multimodal interventions that can facilitate patient education efforts.
- Explore current nutritional trends; such as time-restricted and mindful eating habits as well as Keto and Modified VLCD to guide and support patient care management
- Investigate the use and effectiveness of mobile apps for nutritional support.
- Explain new pharmacological management for obesity.
- Develop strategies to implement care changes for complex mental health patients.
