Description:

This course will review best practices in prescribing anti-obesity medications (AOMs) both from the perspective of a metabolic and bariatric surgeon in addition to the perspective of a nurse practitioner who clinically manages patients’ obesity both pre- and post-surgically. An overview of the future of AOMs and their clinical durability will be reviewed along with presentations of various patient case studies which will include audience participation via a polling feature to facilitate discussion between the audience and the faculty.

Learning Objectives:

  1. List the AOMs currently available for the management of obesity in addition to those AOMs currently under development.
  2. Outline the various treatment plans for patients both pre-and post-metabolic and bariatric surgery following a multidisciplinary team approach.
  3. Describe the potential challenges encountered with prescribing AOMs in treating patients with obesity.
