Description

The course presented by experienced nurses and other integrated health specialists within the specialty of metabolic bariatric surgery will share some of the latest research and practice information to guide nursing care of bariatric surgery patients. This session is particularly targeted to nurses who have worked in the specialty of metabolic bariatric surgery for two or more years. However, all nurses working in metabolic bariatric nursing may find it helpful for their practice and are encouraged to join if they wish.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify strategies to bolster and sustain support group attendance through content development and effective marketing.
  2. Recognize the incidence and potentiality of transfer addiction behaviors in the post-op bariatric population.
  3. Discuss age-specific recommendations related to adolescent patients with obesity.
  4. Explore the implications of anti-obesity medications and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach for comprehensive management.
  5. Develop a scope of practice for nurses in obesity medicine and metabolic and bariatric surgery fields.
