Biography

Dr Stefanidis is the Harris B. Shumacker professor of surgery with tenure, the Vice Chair of education, and Chief of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery of the department of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. He directs clinical outcome research for his section and education and simulation research for the department. At the national level, he is past chair of the ASMBS research committee, past president of the Association for Surgical Education, and the president of the Indiana Chapter of the ASMBS and chair of the SAGES robotic committee. He has a strong interest in improving patient outcomes after bariatric surgery, has obtained several competitive research grants, and published over 250 peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters.
