Biography

Dr Nimeri is the director of Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining the Brigham, He was chief of Bariatric surgery, medical director of Atrium Health Weight Management, program director for the Carolinas Bariatric fellowship program and associate professor of Surgery at UNC and Wake Forest Schools of medicine from 2018-2023. Dr Nimeri is the Secretary/Treasurer of the International Federation for Surgery of Obesity (IFSO) 2019-2025, past president of the IFSO Middle East North Africa Chapter (IFSO MENAC) 2017-2019 and the past president of the Pan Arab Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (PASMBS) 2017-2018. He is the vice chair of the IFSO Ethics committee.He served as vice-chairman of the (IFSO) Communication committee 2019-2021 and chaired the IFSO communication committee chair from 2013-2019. He is on the editorial board of the Obesity Surgery journal and serves as an associate editor. Dr Nimeri is a member in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) communication, Clinical issues/guidelines, Research and Diversity/inclusivity committees. He is a past member of Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Global Affairs committee & educational resources committees.Dr. Nimeri has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles, >10 book chapters and delivered >150 national and international invited presentations. He has received numerous awards, including the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO)‚ÄØPresidential Medal in 2017, IFSO Ambassador award in 2019 and IFSO president award in 2023, the Cleveland Clinic Zielony Nursing Institute‚Äôs Award in 2017 and the Surgical residency teacher of the year award in 2015, best physician and surgeon with the SEHA health care system in 2011 & 2013 and the prestigious Abu Dhabi Medical Distinction award in 2011.
