Biography

I am a General Surgery Resident at McMaster University with an interest in minimally invasive surgery, bariatrics, and surgical endoscopy. I am eager to further specialize in these areas for fellowship in 2025 Р2026. I am inspired to pursue a career that synergizes clinical practice in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, and surgical endoscopy with a research focus in trials, knowledge translation, and evaluation of surgical evidence and policy. My educational experiences in Canada and the US have broadened my perspective on surgeon’s role in healthcare innovation and advocacy for pressing health system issues. Being trained at the birthplace of evidence-based medicine, my main research focus has been in population-based studies, randomized trials, and evidence synthesis in the realm of MIS and Bariatrics.Over the course of my career thus far, I have published more than 110 peer-reviewed journal articles, a testament to my commitment to rigorous scientific inquiry and dissemination of knowledge. As the chair and founder of the Evidence-based General Surgery (EVIGS) working group, I have championed evidence-based surgical practices, a passion I plan to bring to the fellowship program. I have a strong track record in securing substantial research grants as a trainee, including the highest valued surgical resident research grant from the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), International Federation of Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), Ontario Association for General Surgery (OAGS), and more. I have also presented my work at numerous local and international conferences, demonstrating my ability to communicate complex information effectively. My MPH degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health was fully sponsored via the generous support of Margaret and Charles Juravinski Fellowship Award, Michael G DeGroote Fellowship Award, and McMaster University’s Department of Surgery.
