Biography

Dr. Arthur M. Carlin is Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing. He joined Henry Ford Health in 2003 and is the Chief of Surgery at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. He served as Division Head of General Surgery from and as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery. He completed his general surgery residency and obtained his medical degree at Wayne State University where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with High Distinction. Dr. Carlin established the bariatric surgery program at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in 2016 and is their Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program Director. As a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery he was Chair of the Video Committee and serves on the MBSAQIP Committee – Standards and Verification Subcommittee. He previously worked on the ASMBS MBSAQIP and Bariatric Credentialing Taskforces and was a member of the Access to Care and Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committees. Dr. Carlin is a Past President of the Michigan Bariatric Society (State Chapter of the ASMBS) and the Detroit Surgical Association. He is Director of the Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collaborative and is dedicated to optimizing bariatric surgery outcomes within the state of Michigan and globally. He has broad experience in the field of bariatric surgery and has performed over 4000 laparoscopic bariatric operations within Henry Ford Health while helping develop their Bariatric Surgery Center into a highly respected and top-notch program.
