Biography

Dr. Bolton is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Provider and Clinical Supervisor in the States of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Dr. Bolton serves as the Clinical Mental Health Director for Rex Bariatric Services affiliated with Rex/UNC Hospitals in Raleigh, NC. He has provided mental health services since 2006 in the Raleigh/Durham Area and is also the CEO and Founder of Professional Counseling Associates of Cary, PLLC. Dr. Bolton recently published a research article entitled: The Use of Culturally-Tailored Telehealth Interventions in Managing Anxiety and Depression in African American Adults in the Journal of Mental Health. He works within an interdisciplinary research team where he studies the intersection of Mental Health within the African American community. He works with a diverse population and specializes in the intersectionality of mental health and physical health. He is a graduate of the University of Florida, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University where he completed his undergraduate and graduate studies. He works as part of the interdisciplinary care team for bariatric patients. He provides pre-operative psychological clearances, pre-operative counseling, post-operative counseling, and support group sessions for patients of bariatric surgery. Moreover, Dr. Bolton is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill and Teaching Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University. Dr. Bolton also works strongly with international research teams to enhance cultural competence among practitioners working with these patients. Dr. Bolton gives back to the mental health community by supervising future mental health providers for clinical licensure.
